Watershed Maps

A watershed is the area of land where all the water under or on it drains to the same waterbody.

Watersheds come in all shapes and sized.  They cross county, state and national boundaries.  In the continental United States, there are 2,267 watersheds.

Healthy watersheds are vital to a healthy environment and economy.  Our watersheds provide water for drinking, irrigation and industry.  Many people also enjoy lakes and streams for their beauty and for boating, fishing and swimming.  Wildlife also needs healthy watersheds for food and shelter.
